Come join us for the 7th annual Shingletown
Star Party!
Whether you enjoy collecting your ancient photons in the wells
of a CCD chip or with your retinas, you'll find the SSP is focused
on providing you with the ultimate all around star party vacation
experience. Located on an unused airstrip at an altitude of 4,000
feet in the heart of the vacationers paradise of Northern California
only 17 miles from the north entrance to scenic Mt. Lassen Volcanic
National Park, the Shingletown Airport is only 5 miles away from
creature comforts such as hot meals, groceries, hardware, and
fuel. This site is located in the gray zone on the light pollution
map, and typically has skies to at least Mag 7 and shirtsleeve
temps overnight. There is room for at least 300+ telescopes on
the paved airstrip (and the adjacent areas can be expanded for
additional camping/observing as needed). Horizons are excellent
all around, and the site boasts a superb daytime view of Mt. Lassen.
You can enjoy spending an entire week of vacationing
in the area while conveniently staying at the Shingletown Airport.
You can camp out in a tent, bring your RV, rent a nearby cabin
or even stay at a nearby private campground. The site is secure
during the day while the party's going on so you can feel free
to leave your equipment set up while you enjoy the many daytime
activities available in the Shingletown area. Shower facilities
are available and are included in the registration fee. Vendors
have been invited to participate to personally assist you with
your astronomy equipment needs.
Over the years, the SSP has built a fine international
reputation and has enjoyed the pleasure of hosting a number of
amateur observers from many foreign countries as well as the many
enthusiastic participants from all over the United States.
SSP has always been a family friendly, family oriented event. So as always, children under the age of 18 are welcome to attend with you for FREE!
Imagers Competition
SSP 2008 will conduct our second annual Daily Imaging Competition. Check out the 2007 winners and the rules for 2008 on the Images Page.

Public Night Guest Speakers
"Preserving our Dark Skies"
While the public speaker for 2008 is tbd, we have been very proud to have Mr. Jack Sales of Skykeepers.org as the guest speaker for the Public Night event in the past. For many years Jack has championed the noble cause of preserving our dark skies and we encourage everyone to join us and hear what they have to say about this important topic.
In honor and appreciation of Jack and Dan's contributions
to our hobby and our event, we'd greatly appreciate it if you'd
take a moment and check out the following web sites and do whatever
you can to help save our dark skies!
